AN ARTS INDUSTRY ENDEAVOR FOR AIDS PREVENTION, CARE AND CURE

Statement of Purpose
The McGaw Foundation is an art industry endeavor committed to AIDS prevention care and cure. Established in 1992 by Nancy and Bruce McGaw, The McGaw Foundation is a non-profit organization which generates funding through its publishing program, art industry fund-raising events, as well as personal and corporate contributions. Funding is dedicated to non-profit, community-based agencies which directly benefit people of all ages living with the challenges of HIV and AIDS. Organizations funded by The McGaw Foundation are characteristically grassroots in nature, and several have provided the early models in community-based care for other non-profit organizations to emulate nationwide. The McGaw Foundation has disbursed more than $1.2 million since inception to more than 35 qualified non-profit organizations representing innovative programs in California, Florida, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington and Wisconsin.

Organizations Receiving Funding

Old Cotton Barn, Beech Island, South Carolina
Qualified non-profit organizations nationwide receiving funding from The McGaw Foundation include long-term residential facilities providing primary medical care, interim housing for homeless people with AIDS, hospice care, and several food services providing nutritional meals to people homebound with AIDS. In addition, day treatment programs and resource centers providing practical care, counseling support including legal advocacy, a needle exchange program, and community-based drug protocol research are included. The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation serves children in California. Camp VIVA in New York, The Birch Camp in Michigan and Camp Heartland in Wisconsin provide creative summer programs to enhance the quality of life for children and their families living with HIV and AIDS.

Following the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf coast in 2005, The McGaw Foundation donated several thousand dollars to two organizations new to the Foundation's list of beneficiaries: Katrina AIDS Alliance Emergency Fund, and NO/AIDS Task Force of New Orleans.

Ongoing Funding for the Rivington House
One of the primary organizations receiving funding on an ongoing basis is the Rivington House, under the auspices of Village Care of New York, which opened in May 1995, and is New York State's first private long-term health care facility for people living with AIDS. Rivington House is a 219-bed residential skilled nursing facility which also offers an Adult Day-Treatment Program. Individualized resident-directed care includes a team of resources which may include family members, physician, nursing, social worker, recreational, physical and occupational therapists, dietician, clergy, and alternate therapy care givers. This innovative residential facility promotes an environment in which each individual, their family and care partners can maximize their strengths to enhance or maintain an optimal level of health and wellness. A portion of the facility will be dedicated to the memory of Paul J. Liptak, former Director of Acquisitions and a longtime friend and colleague of Nancy and Bruce McGaw.

An Innovative Publishing Program
In addition to major events, principal funding is derived from The McGaw Foundation Publishing Program. Participating artists waive any royalty; artists and publishers donate images for publication; printers contribute services and printing costs; distributors provide all cataloging and administrative costs and donate ALL receipts from the sale of these life-affirming images. Funding then directly benefits people living with AIDS and HIV. Artists who have generously contributed their time, talent and imagery to The McGaw Foundation include: Yuriko Takata, William Gatewood, Andre Bertounesque, Art Wolfe, Bonnie Marris, Cheryl Piperberg, Jacques Lamy, Albert Swayhoover, Tom Slaughter, Ross Bleckner, The Estate of Dick Mason and The Estate of Keith Haring. Several artists have generously contributed more than one piece to the program, including Romero Britto, Lisa Grubb, P.G. Gravele, Diane Romanello and Michael Kahn. A tremendous contribution of imagery was made in September, 2001 by the artist Royo and his agent Triad Art Group Publishing when seven images were contributed to the Foundation's publishing program, and a promise that new Royo images would be donated in the future. Since then, four additional images have been contributed. Other significant releases have included Roy Lichtenstein's Girl at Piano, 1963, which was published as an oversized serigraph, Len Prince's photographic portrait of actress Drew Barrymore as an icon of Hollywood glamour and Robert Bateman's rustic Moose at Water's Edge. Most recently contributed images have included pieces from the respected watercolorist Ray Hendershot and abstractionist Nancy Ortenstone. Additional new releases have been donated by highly acclaimed contemporary painters Alice Dalton Brown and Wolf Kahn, as well as the contribution of Warhol's Daisy, 1982 made by The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and most recently a Gretchen Dow Simpson landscape contributed through the assistance of Munson Graphics.
